The mouse headed DJ, Deadmau5 electrified the crowd as the huge visuals behind him showed off Nokia’s new phone. Take a look at the official press release and the performance video below.
Press Release:
On Monday 28th November Nokia Lumia 800 with Windows phone nokia.ly/vT9nR7 brought deadmau5 and the world’s most advanced 4D technology together and created an amazing free light show at Millbank Tower, London.
Millbank was plunged into darkness with the iconic tower acting as the canvas for a never-before-seen spectacular. Each of the 120 metre high building’s 800 windows were covered with vinyl as 16 powerful projectors, stationed 300 metres away on the other side of the river, beamed 3D images onto the structure. Huge butterflies flew across the London skyline and the tower was twisted, pulsated and even fell down. Billed as the “future of live events” the spectacular show was accompanied by music from super producer deadmau5, who created exclusive remixes for the performance — adding the 4th dimension.
The much-anticipated Nokia Lumia 800 is here. View all your texts and chats in one seamless conversation. Take, tag and upload photos to Facebook in seconds, and browse the web like you’re on a PC. Beats Give Back | Colette & Ultra Nate’ help NextAid
Two of House Music’s leading ladies, Colette and Ultra Nate’, are using their beats to give back. You may know Colette as the angelic voice behind some of OM records biggest hits, and Ultra Nate as the powerful voice behind House Music classics: such as Free & Found a Cure. Both of these ladies are currently leading campaigns through www.Crowdrise.com, in order to raise funds for NextAid’s efforts in supporting the youth of the Kawangware Vision Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
“If we all donated $10 a piece, we’d be finished funding this project! Let’s do this” Colette
Why? because! It’s so necessary!
- 9 million youth in Kenya are unemployed.
- 41% of Kenya’s population live in cities. Many children are sent to urban centers to find work to support families in rural areas. Here they are vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, and life on the streets.
- One in two Kenyans live below the poverty line.
- Only 24% of Kenyan children attend secondary school. School fees and costs are usually the primary barrier to sending a child to further education.
- There are an estimated 250,000 to 300,000 children living and working on the streets in Kenya.
NextAid is doing something about this!

New album from Soulstice May 17th on OM Records
In 1989 Gabriel Rene and Mei-Lwun Yee were working on a hip-hop track in the Rene family studio. “The track was cool,” says Gabriel, “but Mei-Lwun and I couldn’t rap.” They asked little sister Gina to give it a try, and the rest is history. It wasn’t til…l some time later that Soulstice finally materialized after collaboration between Andy Caldwell and Gabriel in 1995. “I knew the first time I worked on a track with Gabe that this was right. Making music with my brother was where I was supposed to be. The chemistry between all of us was so obvious and it was such a natural high whenever we’d get together.” reflects Gina. Approaching production from a collaborative standpoint, Soulstice often developed many of the sounds and ideas they used from the freestyle sessions they originally became known for. Soulstice continued to refine their sound with emotive song writing and detailed arrangements. From playing to a few hundred people at 111 Minna St to playing sold out shows at the 1200 capacity historic Fillmore Theatre, SF, Soulstice have come a long way in their musical journey. “We live and breathe our music, everything comes from us. The song is king, it’s all about the lyrics.” says Andy. “Like a lyrical journal, I lay out my experiences and melodies to connect to the present in our music. I get the feeling that the whole band’s lyrical ability to be so honest about the struggle of growing into adulthood really brings the listener in.” describes Gina. Stay tuned for their new album ‘In the Light’ coming on May 17th on Om Records.
WMC vs Ultra
On Tuesday November 16th two of the largest electronic music events in the US announced their plans for March 2011. The Winter Music Conference [WMC] dates and Ultra Music Festival [UMF] dates for the fist time would be on separate weeks, causing a huge controversy within the industry. Initially WMC took most of the shots on their facebook page from angry and disappointed fans that were expecting a later March date and the ability to attend both events. In the days following the announcement many club owners, DJs, promoters and fans have already taken sides in what is turning into a WMC vs UMF scenario. Twitter also saw some #WMC activity from well known DJs and promoters, initially slamming WMC for the early dates. The first official industry response came from Louis Puig, owner of Club Space in Miami, who sided with WMC and accused the UMF of greedy practices by making DJs sign exclusive contracts. Puig wrote “…Ultra is trying to monopolize WMC by engaging exclusive contracts with all major DJs which will not allow them to perform at your favorite dance clubs. Last year they got Tiesto, Dead Mau, Guetta, Carl Cox, Armin…) to sign Ultra exclusives and this year they are going after everyone else. What this means to the consumer is that you will no longer be able to enjoy your favorite DJ for extended sets after midnight at your favorite clubs, instead you will be forced to listen to them for a one hour set before midnight in a crowded field of dust, mud and ravers. You can also forget about seeing them at your favorite pool parties. You either pay the overpriced Ultra admission or you don’t get to see and dance to your favorite DJ at all, so much for democracy and your rights as a consumer. Now, I love Ultra and what they bring to the game but I do not agree with their greedy strategy to manipulate and monopolize Music Conference. This is just not good for anyone.” Soon after the official WMC press release came out stating “We were blindsided by Ultra’s last minute announcement…a signed October 15, 2009, contract between the two entities that the 2011 Ultra Music Festival would be presented during the five-day period in February, March or April 2011 designated and promoted by WMC as the WMC week.” On November 18th UMC posted their official response stating “While the circumstances that have taken place this year have rendered it impossible for Ultra Music Festival and WMC to coincide on the same dates in 2011, we will use our best efforts to try and work with WMC and coordinate dates together in 2012.” Stay tuned for news on upcoming events and who will be h0sting events on WMC or UMF week.
Ultra Music Festival 2011 dates announced
